Wet shot peening achieves the same Almen intensity as dry shot peening. It also gives you a better finish, lower process costs and more control.

For maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) teams working on jet engine components, here's what that means in practice.

A better surface finish. Shot carried in water produces a smoother finish at the same intensity, often removing the need to polish aerofoil surfaces afterwards.

Lower process costs. Titanium and nickel alloy dust is held in the water, so there's no need for ATEX-rated extraction. Oil and grease come off during peening, removing the separate pre-clean that dry peening specifications require.

More control. Wet peening is more controllable than any other peening process, giving uniform results from one cycle to the next.

The Vapormatt Cougar+ is built to deliver this. It processes parts up to 1200mm in diameter, and its linear vertical configurations peen items such as fan blades from the side. The optional wet peening kit adds an elutriation tower to remove broken and undersized shot, long nozzles, and air pressure control and airflow monitoring on each gun, so impact energy stays consistent.

To ensure you get the perfect result every time, every machine goes through factory acceptance testing before delivery, usually using your own components.
