Where does wet blasting fit in fibre optic cable manufacturing?

Fibre optic cable manufacturing

Not on the glass, but on the metallic layers that protect it in submarine communications cable.

Before the polyethylene insulation is extruded, the metallic layer around the fibre core needs a clean surface for a strong bond. Wet blasting delivers that without solvents.

The Vapormatt Profelis does this in-line:

  • Creates a clean, reactive surface for outer layer bonding
  • Processes Ø1mm to Ø54mm product, with up to 8 Mk3 blast guns
  • Wet blasts, rinses and air-wipes in one unit with a short line length, designed to fit into existing lines and configurable to run left-to-right or right-to-left
  • Optional cable vacuum drying unit
  • Degreaser can be added to the slurry or rinse
  • Fully enclosed and ventilated, with recirculated rinse water to keep running costs down
  • Often tested with your actual product during factory acceptance testing, before it ships
