Spring fatigue starts at the surface. Wet blasting gives you control of it.
For springs built for high loads, high cycle counts or harsh environments, wet blasting delivers:
- Longer fatigue life. Wet shot peening builds compressive residual stress where cracks begin.
- A clean surface. Water flushes debris and scale away, so springs leave the machine ready for inspection or coating.
Springs that benefit from the process include those found in the aerospace, defence, industrial, and medical industry. Ranging from fuel control springs to those found on surgical instruments.
The Puma+ Vertical with satellites automatic wet blasting machine is well suited to the task.
Up to 42 springs mount on individual satellites around the turntable. The machine indexes to each one, rotates it on its own axis and traverses two blast nozzles along its full length, so every spring in the batch receives the same all-round coverage.
Stored recipes set the traverse speed and blast length for each spring type, so changeover is a simple recipe selection. Through Vapormatt 4.0, our engineers can diagnose the machine and update programmes remotely.
Send us sample springs and your specification. Our process engineers will wet blast them to your requirements and share the results, so you can see the improved fatigue performance for yourself.
