Composites

The Best Preparation for Composite Bonding

By lightly wet blasting the top layer of composite components, the surface area for bonding is increased and any waxy residues are removed. So as well as improving the adhesion of composite components to other composites or metal, it also improves the ease of lacquering or painting.

In the case of carbon fibre composites, there’s the additional benefit of the water in the wet-blasting process reducing fibre damage by buffering the abrasive particles. With wet-blasting being so suited to composite bonding, it’s no wonder Vapormatt systems are installed in some of the world’s leading Formula 1 Teams and Aerospace manufacturers.

Vapormatt have been able to provide several systems for the preparation of composite components (typically carbon fibre) for bonding to other composite or metal parts.

With composite materials being used more and more in the manufacture of critical components, it is important they are compatible with existing materials and processes.

The advantage of using the Vapormatt wet blast process becomes apparent in the increased adhesion and shear strength of, wet blasted and then, bonded components.

Having sold wet blasting systems to several aerospace, automotive and Formula 1 racing teams, we have proven that the Vapormatt wet blast process is a viable alternative to any manual scrubbing, peel ply or dry blasting process. Vapormatt's commitment to process control has enabled users to achieve very precise surface finishes making Vapormatt the system of choice at a leading composite research centre in the United Kingdom.

With several small to medium sized cabinets we are able to fulfil a range of different capacities depending on your output and size of components.
