The benefits of wet blasting as a means of surface preparation for the wire industry are being highlighted by specialist manufacturer Vapormatt on stand 15 / G36 at Wire 2012 Exhibition in Dusseldorf.

The UK based organisation is drawing attention to the high levels of blasting, cleaning and drying consistency that can be achieved with its technology, which has been proven in a long list of applications - from cleaning, degreasing and de-scaling to etching and satin polishing of a large number of wire cable and strip products.

In the spotlight on the stand is the Vapormatt Profelis, which provides in-line processing of products with varying geometry and material, while avoiding harsh chemicals or potential dust arising from mechanical action.

"The fully self-contained Profelis requires a footprint of just 2.3m x 1.3m and can be readily adapted to match precise customer requirements," comments Vapormatt Sales Director, Mick Teague. "The system is based on two adjacent units which provide wet blast, two spray rinses and a drying stage to produce high quality, consistent results for key uses across the wire manufacturing industry. For example, it is ideal for installations that focus on the removal of surface contamination or which create a cosmetic finish, as well as those that are undertaken ahead of bonding and coating processes. It is also able to accommodate band-saw honing and carding wire processing. In all cases," adds Mick Teague, "the operation is contained within the water-tight machine enclosure."

The advantage of wet blasting as a means of preparing and cleaning surfaces for follow-on processes is a central point being emphasised by Vapormatt at the exhibition. This not only focuses on its ability to optimise surface profiles but also, importantly, to minimise potential wastage which can arise from alternative process methods such as shaving.

With Vapormatt's acclaimed wet blast support services behind each installation - from commissioning, training and the development of maintenance plans to refurbishments, upgrades and process evaluations - all visitors to stand number 15 / G36 will see for themselves how the wire industry can gain from the company's dedicated wet blasting equipment design and experienced, proven back-up.
