Engineering excellence from the beginning

The first wet blasting machines were developed in the late 1940s when Norman Ives Ashworth began pioneering surface treatment technologies whilst working with Sir Frank Whittle on the development of the jet engine. His work didn't just solve a problem. It laid the foundation for an entire industry.

When the 2nd generation of the Ashworth family established Vapormatt in 1978, we continued that pioneering spirit. Through decades of focused investment in research, development, and people, we've engineered wet blasting technologies that deliver consistent, repeatable results trusted by multinational customers across advanced manufacturing sectors worldwide.

Nearly 50 years later, we're still proving we're the best.

Innovation that sets the standard

We don't follow industry trends. We create them. Our commitment to innovation has resulted in world firsts that define modern wet blasting. And we continue to innovate, holding numerous patents for process control, blast slurry conditioning, media filtration, and blast gun systems.

These aren't just technical achievements. They're proof that we challenge conventional thinking and set the standards others follow. Explore our patent portfolio

Vortex pumps

Capable of handling up to 50% abrasive concentration

Micro nozzles

Using 70% less air than industry standards

Low level sumps

Allowing large cabinets to be built without pits or platforms

Particle seperation

Using elutriation to separate broken media better than anything else

Process control that delivers precision

With decades of experience and a design philosophy of 'if you can measure it, you can control it', our wet blasting machines lead the industry in repeatable and reliable processing. We've developed unparalleled control over the wet blasting process, particularly in managing blast media slurry flow from our blast guns.

This precision delivers exceptionally uniform and controlled finishes that many competitors struggle to achieve. One customer improved their machine availability from 50% to 98% by switching to Vapormatt technology and others achieving consistent edge hones to within 2 microns of accuracy.

A collaborative partnership approach

The Ashworth family, originators of wet blasting

Our success stems from a commitment to understanding customer needs deeply. We work collaboratively to become true experts in our customers' specific requirements. Most customers stay with us for the life of their machine, which regularly exceeds 30 years.

This loyalty isn't accidental. We don't give up on customers. Our process consultants, design teams, and service engineers provide comprehensive support throughout the entire lifecycle of every machine we build. It's a commitment that comes from family values, not quarterly targets.

Despite this international footprint, we remain family owned and operated. The third generation of the Ashworth family took over leadership in 2003. The fourth generation are already in senior positions, ensuring our values and commitment to excellence continue. Our heritage isn't nostalgia. It's the foundation that drives future innovation.
