Safer component cleaning for aerospace
Vapormatt, a leading specialist in wet blasting for surface finishing and cleaning in industrial applications, is now offering a high performance, enclosed paraffin wash machine, developed specifically to safely degrease metals, plastics and painted surfaces. This simple and easy to operate machine enables aerospace engineers to quickly and efficiently clean dirty components, while reducing the health risks of inhaling cleaning solvent mist and vapour.
The manually operated Safespray 3 wash machine removes the need for employees to wear breathing or splash protection equipment, therefore minimising health and safety equipment purchase costs for employers. During the cleaning process the access door is manually closed and locked by the operator, who then uses internally mounted pressurised spray nozzles, cleaning solvent and a nozzle-incorporated brush to quickly remove oil and grease from dirty components. Upon completion of the cleaning process, an extractor fan operates for a pre-set time to reduce solvent mist and vapour to safe breathing levels and, importantly, occupational exposure limits. Once extraction finishes, the door automatically unlocks and the operator can safely remove the components.
The system uses Lotoxane, a cleaning solvent which has a high flash point of 61 degrees centigrade and is therefore considerably safer than many alternative solvents. Following the washing cycle the cleaning liquid is filtered and recycled.
The Safespray 3 is fully compliant with the latest spray application regulations and has been extensively assessed to meet Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR).
