Vacuum Pump Overhaul

Vapormatt equipment - vacuum pump overhaul

The vacuum pump overhaul industry typically depends upon harsh chemical and detergent washing systems, followed by either hand scrubbing or dry blasting to clean pump components. In addition many of these pumps contain high level contaminants which have to be handled in clean room conditions.

Vapormatt have been successful in replacing and improving these traditional cleaning methods with a combination of the Vapormatt Liquid Abrasive Process, along with High Pressure Hot Water which is used for general purpose cleaning and degreasing when abrasive scrubbing is either not required or undesirable.

The Vapormatt Liquid Abrasive Process achieves fast degreasing and surface scrubbing to remove scale without damaging close tolerance surfaces. The two processes are included in custom manufactured process cabinets which join one another in the overall system.

Complete turnkey projects can be designed in a variety of ways to suit the customer’s plant layout and material handling style, which usually include the following sub-systems :

1. Disassembly Areas
These consist of tables which are built with down draft exhaust and liquid containment ducts, complete with gantries and hoists to bring the pump onto the table. The disassembled components are placed in baskets which are loaded onto trolleys that run throughout the system.
2. Manual Or Semi-Automatic Liquid Abrasive Cleaning System
The first of the process cabinets consists of the Vapormatt High Volume Liquid Abrasive unit which combines media with a high concentration of water in a closed loop configuration. A special internally mounted pump delivers a high volume flow of the slurry to the process nozzle which is accelerated by regulated air pressure to deliver varying degrees of aggressiveness for blasting and general degreasing and cleaning
3. Manual Or Semi-Automatic High Pressure Hot Water Cleaning System
The second of the two process units is fitted with a high pressure hot water pump which is used for general purpose degreasing and cleaning without abrasive. It can also be used as a secondary rinsing operation following the liquid slurry cleaning.
4. Agitation Rinse
This is the final processing point for the pump components. Here, the operator moves the parts basket from the trolley to the rinse unit which submerges the basket of parts into an elevated temperature water rinse. This assists flash drying of components.
5. Exhaust / Fume Management
Depending upon customer requirements, Vapormatt can provide anything from basic to advanced exhaust / fume management to minimize operator exposure hazards.
6. Water Effluent Treatment Units
Vapormatt can provide complete closed loop water effluent filtration, also reclamation systems to collect the valuable oils which are drained from pumps during disassembly.
7. Clean Rooms
These consist of down draft containment booths with air filtration, either of the single pass or recirculation type, in which all the sub-systems are housed. The booths can be fitted with lighting, heating and filter elements to Hepa standard.

Vapormatt will be pleased to arrange a demonstration of these processes.
