Whenever equipment is serviced, maintained, reconditioned or repaired, it is necessary to clean it to some
extent. In fact the only requirement is often to clean, inspect, and then to re-use or scrap. So cleaning
becomes a vital but often overlooked operation.
Most people think of cleaning as a simple task, but as so often, there are complications.
Cleaning may involve anything from nuts and bolts to, say, complete turbine generators. Complexity can vary from a simple spindle to a sophisticated electrical
assembly, and materials can include any metal as well as composites.

The level and type of contamination can also vary from lightly oiled to heavy grease, and can involve the
removal of rust, scale, carbon, paint, chemical deposits, general dirt, and heat discolouration. On
occasions all of these contaminants could be present together!
Finally, the acceptable finish of the part after cleaning can range from unchanged from the original finish, to lightly etched, or even in some cases, to the removal of the surface skin to a controlled degree.

| VAPORMATTING HAS THE IDEAL SET OF CHARACTERISTICS FOR A CLEANING
PROCESS: |
 |
It will
simultaneously degrease and remove contamination. |
 |
It is a
searching process which will treat complex surfaces, reach deep holes and the inside surfaces of pipes and tubes. |
 |
It will clean and is compatible with all metals, and the widest range of composite materials. |
 |
The system does not use strong toxic chemicals or solvents and is environmentally friendly. |
 |
The process generates no dust and therefore creates no potential health hazards. |
 |
The system is versatile in both size and degree of aggression (from delicate to very powerful). |
 |
The system is economical, easy to maintain, and can be operated by unskilled labour. |
 |
The ever-present water barrier prevents harsh impact and reduces surface damage. |
 |
The water based system allows the incorporation of degreasing compounds, rust or oxide inhibitors, disinfectants, or similar
additives. |
 |
Surface cleaning can be combined with a wide range of finishes depending on media choice. Plastic granules and glass beads to maintain the original surfaces, alumina for etching and the provision of a paint key, and stainless steel, ceramic or larger glass beads to peen or compress the surface. |
