Abradable Coatings Removal

To reduce the use of chemicals and the dangers and costs involved with high pressure cleaning systems, Vapormatt after considerable development work, have perfected and now introduced our environmentally friendly and safe cleaning and stripping system for the removal of abradable coatings.

Most current techniques use a combination of chemical softening and very high pressure water jetting to remove these coatings.

The Vapormatt Process uses water, compressed air, and a special process media, which when discharged from a nozzle and directed at the area to be cleaned, will remove aluminium, polyester and nickel graphite abradable coats without damage to substrates or the body material of the component.

The intensity of the process jet can be regulated to remove only the top coat, leaving the bond coating intact.

Rolls Royce have given their approval for removal of abradable coatings from titanium and nickel base alloys - a copy of this report is available on request.

Vapormatt would be pleased to discuss your requirement and forward details of the automatic machines used for this application.
